ParkyPING! was founded in January 2023, by Rob, Hillary and Andrew. It remains entirely volunteer-led and organised, with the following people involved:

Rob who retired in 2024, played table tennis when young and was then an occasional player. Since being diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2019, he has taken part in Parkinson’s UK Championships, Scottish International Open, and PingPongParkinson’s World Championships, winning several medals in Classes 3 and 2. He also plays in Leeds Table Tennis League for Community Table Tennis Club. Rob takes responsibility for funding, managing the website, liaising with members and coaches, and helps run our regular Monday and Tuesday sessions. He also writes a blog – ParkyBoy – about his Parkinson’s journey.

Hillary discovered the joy of table tennis when she retired and plays regularly in Armley. She also has many years’ experience of involvement in a local tennis club, including organising practice sessions, running open days and spells as captain. Hillary is now the ParkyPING! finance department, and also sets up and runs table tennis sessions when needed.

Andrew is retired and is a social table tennis player. Andrew built the welcome sign, the support frame and the ball holders that we use at ParkyPING!, as well as the ramp which we used to get the tables on and off the stage for the first 2.5 years. While no longer regularly involved, Andrew can be called on for support if needed.
